"Roommate’s won’t take care of kitten at all. Leeching all of my supplies for my cat"

[My] roommate is leeching all of my supplies for my cat

So in Jan my roommate got a kitten. To this day, she still: Has not taken him to the vet, bought him his own litter box, or buys his food. She's been feeding him my cats food and he's being using their litter box.
  • 03
We agreed she'd clean it twice a week and she hasn't been doing that recently. I told her we need a 3rd litter box weeks ago because it's bad for the cats and it's cruel.
  • 04
I'm pretty sure she's lying because she said it would be delivered last week and couldn't remember what website she bought it from... and she 100% lied about cleaning the litter box this weekend.
  • 05
It's disgusting and the cats pooped outside of it. I have to dump the entire litter box today. I'm going to sit down and have a serious talk to her about taking care of her cat and going separate ways on shared responsibilities with the cats since she's been so inconsistent.

Any ideas on what solutions I could bring up or how to say it? Anyone had anything similar?

TheKappp I would get a lock for your room and lock your food in there, which hopefully will force her to buy kitten food. The kitten shouldn't be eating adult cat food. Then send her Venmo requests for the amount of cat food and litter you think her kitten has used. Hopefully this helps get her into shape, but if it doesn't, please don't let the kitten be neglected. Have a serious conversation and say you might need to report her or rehome the kitten. Do you want to adopt the kitten? If you take

shrimpsquid67 OP I treat that kitten like it's my own! Which s ks because she's either taking advantage or extremely negligent. When I suggesting splitting costs for food, she told me she'd buy him only wet food on her own which she did for a month ran out, and then started feeding him my cat's food for who knows how long I am going to start having to lock the food in my room. S ks because my male cat will probably try to open it but you gotta do what you gotta do

Ornamental-Plague So I personally would bite the bullet buy a cheap litter box put it in roommates room and never clean it again. Then take your cat food and put it in your room bring your cat's feeding bowls in there and proceed to feed in there from now on. If the other kitten isn't taken care of you can call for animal neglect. It is really that simple, if you give them no choice they will have to figure it out.

shrimpsquid67 OP I think this is fair. We feed each others cats but I asked her to mix water with their dry food which she hasn't been doing. That way we can avoid confusion as well. She said she's going to buy the box today and if she doesn't I'll do that and put it by her door

Jixiro take her cat to the vet, get all the paperwork in your name, and tell her she no longer has a cat or a place to live.
  • 15
shrimpsquid67 OP I would love to do this, except I have an old school landlord who doesn't even do leases ③ We just have paper receipts with her name on it

Majestic-Memory-6084 Drop her off at the animal shelter and keep the kitten.

FawkesFire 13 Personally, I'd hate to see that poor kitten neglected. If I were you, d take the kitten to the vet, get it checked out and taken care of. Get it microchipped in your name, then find the kitten a new home. Or, tell the roommate since you're taking care of the kitten it's yours now and she is no longer allowed to have any pets.

Sorry but I am very serious about people not owning pets who refuse to care for them. A animal doesn't get a choice on who adopts them and they shouldn't be made to suffer for it.

shrimpsquid67 OP That's true. Her kitten and my male cat love each other. I wouldn't mind taking him in as my own. Although, It is a last resort. It would be uncomfortable for and tense in the house. I'm afraid she'll tell all her little friends and probably steal him back even tho he's chipped but who knows

Puzzleheaded_Gear622 Either lock up all of your supplies in your room for your cat so she can't steal from you or simply do the cat a favor and rehome it.
  • 23
shrimpsquid67 OP Rehoming is the last resort. I love that cat. I'm going to have the talk with her. Followed by in the toilet and not flushing it so she can see how the cat feels when she won't take care of the box.
